Primary Program
Ages 7 to 9 years old
The IBA Primary Program gives young dancers an introduction to formal ballet techniques and training. Classes emphasize the development of a dancer's balance, focus, and understanding of vocabulary, musicality, and stamina. Students begin formal training through the practice of age-appropriate techniques in order to develop the self-discipline necessary to continue the study of classical ballet in the Preparatory Program.
Curriculum
Pre-Ballet | 7 to 8 years old
Classes will feature an introduction to formal ballet techniques starting at the barre. Exercises emphasize the development of a dancer's balance, focus, and understanding of the vocabulary, musicality, and stamina. Dancers practice stretching and strengthening exercises to help promote a healthy foundation for work in the preparatory program. This is the age where students are introduced to other forms of dance such as Tap and Jazz.
Dancers may participate in the End of Year performance as well as IBA’s annual Children’s production.

Emphasis is put on solidifying vocabulary, developing balance and understanding of proper body alignment, as well as the necessary focus, musicality, and stamina. This is the age where students are introduced to other forms of dance such as Tap and Jazz.

Tap Dance | 7 to 9 years old
Tap dance is like learning to use a musical instrument on your feet. Characterized by its unique, percussive sound as the metal taps hit against the floor, various techniques are learned to create rhythmical and dynamic tones. Rhythm Tap, focusing more on musicality and Broadway Tap, centers more on performance, and are two of the main techniques explored in these lessons. This is a wonderful way to develop the mind’s capacity for remembering choreography and the body’s ability for complex coordination.
